I foresee a comfortable DD in the future but very few cars under $75k are appealing to me anymore and i barely want to spend 1/6th of that  ....so I'm thinking about an E39 to basically leave "stock". I'd love a 540iT cosmetically converted to an M but their prices still seem a lil high! Does the touring even come in a manual, I can't find one anywhere?!

This is my idea, it's either going to be silver or black '97-98...I don't really care if it's the greatest deal on earth, its still gotta be silver or black or won't even look at it. Then I'd prefer the interior black but i can compromise a little there. Exterior wise, if it's black it's going to be ALL black: later model headlights, black grill(s), M bumper, black tint, black wheels. Porsche 'Big Reds' are selling for around $500-750 p/set...i have an idea with that ;)

Photoshopped these pics pretty much like what i'm aiming for...

The E39 is simply one of the most beautiful cars made. Clean and simple. If you do happen to get a black one and do it ALL black exterior, PLEASE PLEASE do not do red brakes...get the Big Reds and powdercoat them black or something, just dont break up the all black with calipers. Just my opinion. Other then that sounds like a great car with what you are planning :)

Exactly, people tell me to get red when i do my BBK too, but if the calipers are large enough they will stand out enough even if they are the same color as the car :goodjob:

I hope you find a clean one, I cant wait to see it

There's plenty around. Try to get 99+ as their motors were torquier and they didn't come with the awful looking chrome trim that the earlier 540's came with. I believe later 98's didn't have this trim as well. Otherwise you'll spend a few $ like I did to swap it out for the newer "shadow line trim". The best bang for the buck mod on a 6 speed would be the differential F.Y.I. Factory comes with 2.81 open, if you throw a 3.15 from a 99+ auto sport on their you'll run mid 13's in the 1/4 mile like I did..all day long. It turns it into a real beast, I suprised alot of people with that car with only a few bolt ons.

540's will always be a favorite of Mine Wagons are off the hook as well.

Do not do those eye lids shown on the black one and be sure to check the the Valve Cover Gasket on your potential purchase - easy check that could save you big $$$ since the labor on that simple job is rediculus due to the engine being placed further back wow this is a long run-on sentence thank you!

There are a good amount of manual 540iT wagons. Most will be M-Tech wagons and have front and rear M bumpers and have the M-Parallel Wheels. They are SWEET.

Keep searching. They are around ;)

Aren't wagons rare as hell? I remember reading once that some year...they sold more Z8s than they did 5-series wagons.

ahhh, finally got the spec sheets and trim sizes on all the Squires Turbo/STS systems....average power and torque increase is 40-70% at only 5 to 7psi (non-intercooled).

http://www.ststurbo.com/sts_data_sheets1

Trying to compare displacement and everything between the applications to determine what would work best on a 540i's M62 4.4L V8?! Intercool it and increase the power another 15-20% :yumyum: (guessimate from their numbers/dyno tests)

On paper it looks good anyways?! [I think] feasibly a 50-60% power increase could be made on a stock engine with 6 to 7psi...sure, i'd be happy with 450hp/500lb.-ft. torque :D BUT If the engine was mildly built maybe 10-12psi with 550-600hp? :dunno:
