Need more info. If it is only smoking at red line..etc..etc..it could be just unburnt fuel or excess fuel...nothing to really worry about...but if it smells like oil or is white smoke, then you have something to worry about.

Injectors are 440's on stock motor/ecu

smoke is black

a/f gauge is reading lean

at low rpms shifts sometimes you hear a minor backfire
but it still runs good...

thanks for the replies

He just replaced the plugs from iridiums to ngk-r's
new nology wires
new air filter
oil changed
new fuel filter
new dizzy

He is gonna swap the injectors for stock ones to see what happens...

Hopefully that cleans it up...

thanks for the replies

with injectors.. did he have it tuned when he swaped the stock ones out for the ones he has now? if not then that is more than likely why

He bought the ek the way it sits... Stock type-r ecu, the car was originally supercharged...it runs good as it sits...I'm gonna get him to get new injectors and hopefully this corrects the problem

stock ecu and 440's...that's your problem right there. you're overfueling like crazy. 440's are almost twice the size of stock. the reason it's showing lean is because there is a sh#t ton of unburnt fuel and no o2 in the exhaust since a large volume of it is gas.

burning excess fuel=rich
burning too little fuel=lean
not burning fuel=lean becuase it reduces the volume of exhaust gas/air in the pipe.
black on bumper and backfire between shifts=too much fuel and fuel burning in the exhuast pipe.

need to socket/chip the ecu and tune for those injectors or swap to stock 240cc injectors.
