Okay, I don't know what hit me tonight, but I'm finally f*cking sick of it. I have got to get out of here. Not this town, not this state, but this whole f*cking country. I'm sick and f*cking tired of living this dull, run-of-the-mill lifestyle and I'm not going to put up with it anymore.

I've put the room I'm renting up for another tenant if anyone is looking to move out in the Acworth area. Please check the Lifestyles section for details or PM me.

The Yaris is for sale in the Cars For Sale section. Just take over the payments and you can have her. I don't care.

Check out my for sale thread in the Garage Sale section to pick up some neat stuff for good prices. All of it is going towards a plane ticket and a cash stock of $4 grand to get started with on a new life.

I'm also looking for weekend work if anyone needs help with anything. I don't care what it is as long as it pays decent. Manual labor, paperwork, whatever. I don't f*cking care. Just give me a job, a check, and I'll get it done.

Finally, although I highly doubt it, I'm also open to any kinds of donations that anyone would throw my way. You can hit up my paypal at [email protected]. Whether you want to help me at achieving my goal or if you just want to see me leave. It's all the same to me and anything from $1 to $100 is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all that would support me. The goal is to be gone for good by the end of the year. God bless.

I'm not going to live up the high life in nice hotels and tour the cities. I'm going with a duffel bag of clothes and necessary supplies for things like baths, ect... I'm just going to walk around the country and take in a culture. Maybe I'll find something more, maybe not.

2) I was in an Army scout unit for two years. I signed up for six, but a forty foot fall during a training incident relocated my spine and got me discharged. Now the VA pays me $500 a month.

wat is making you leave? just curiousWho knows man? I guess I'm just tired of life. I don't know why though. I have a great family, a loving girlfriend, a good paying job, and every creature comfort I could want. I'm just sick of it. Maybe I'm going to find myself or something. My mother thinks I'm going to find God. She just doesn't know that I don't plan on coming back. So, who knows? A search for love and adventure? Self-reflection? Maybe something else? I'll know it when I find it.

I can't say I've known you for very long, or much at all. I do hope you have better luck wherever you go. I'm honestly tired of the little place called Mableton. It's full of nothing but shit and rednecks. The only thing keeping me here is money, and my friends/family. Hell, a lot of my family are rednecks.

Good luck doing what it's going to take me years more to do.

I'm just tired of putting this off and I'm about at my limit. I'm ready to do this and not look back. When I leave, if my Yaris hasn't been sold by then, my parents will be left with the car to do as they please. My VA check can cover the payments and the insurance if they want to keep it. I recommend they sell it. The rest of my stuff (stereo, minifridge, futon, DVDs, ect...) will also probably be for sale should they see fit. I just don't care about this wordly sh*t anymore. I want to go and really live my life.

On my own, walking around with really nothing to lose. Again, I can't really say what I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I find it. :goodjob:

You can live your life here you know. This country is huge and there's lots to be found here...Perhaps, but I'd rather go to somewhere I want to go. Someplace different, with an actual culture and past. Maybe I'm just looking for something new. Either way you take it, I don't plan on being in the US for a hell of a lot longer. Thanks for the insight though Marty. :)

I dunno man. You could be right. I could get over there, blow all my money away and be stranded with nothing to my name but the clothes on my back and begging for food. On the other hand, I could get over there and have a life-making experience. I could find a purpose, a lover, or a life. Maybe I won't find anything at all and I'll just come back home. However, weighing the goods against the bads, I think it's worth it.

We've all got to die someday, but I'd rather go with the peace of mind that I least looked for who I was. Can you understand that? Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic who has watched way too much anime. I don't know but I really don't care. I'm selling everything to my name and I'm going to find a new me. That's all there is to it.

Look, if you want to go to Japan because it's cool, say you want to go to Japan because it's cool, don't make up other reasons.

In America, there are different cultures, with LOTS of history. How many states have you lived in? How many states have you lived in by yourself? How many states have you visited? (and not just a weekend or driven through)

i feel u dude.. i'm tired of the same ole same ole as well.. but as far as me leavin the country forget about it! i do want out of the atl area though... or would like to get paid more so that cost of living doesn't kill me....

i may be speaking for myself.. but i think most people in our age group.. (unless they are in college or have an incredible job) become complacent with their lives and we all just tell ourselves.. well someday i'm gonna do this, and i'm gonna do that.. and i'll have the money for this.... yet we don't do anything to work towards our goals. so we just become more and happy and more unhappy....

Well... good luck Nate. I want to do something similar (contrary to me being so anti-jdm, I am very much a japanophile). Where in Japan would you go?

Ran
02-20-2007, 09:09 AM
Look, if you want to go to Japan because it's cool, say you want to go to Japan because it's cool, don't make up other reasons.I personally think Japan is cool. I really like their traditions, their culture and such. To say that I'm going to Japan simply because I think it's cool is a bit shallow tough. It may be true subconsciously, but I like to think there's more to it than that.

In America, there are different cultures, with LOTS of history. How many states have you lived in? How many states have you lived in by yourself? How many states have you visited? (and not just a weekend or driven through)I personally don't see America as having any actual culture at all. I see it nothing more than a giant glob of other cultures, mixed together in some bastardized stew. Sure, different places will be different and the people will change, but it's just not the same man.

I don't know man, and I'm not going to try and force you to understand. I chose Japan because of a fascination. Because it's a place that I actually dream of exploring and discovering on a personal level. If you want to say that I just think it's cool, then that's fine. I won't judge your view or opinion and I'll respect it.

Well... good luck Nate. I want to do something similar (contrary to me being so anti-jdm, I am very much a japanophile). Where in Japan would you go?Thanks man.

Flight would land at Tokyo International Airport, from there I'd start southbound into Shizuoka.
Then west and south into Nara.
North into Osaka, then westward through Okayama, Hiroshima and into Yamaguchi.
From there I may or may not continue south to hit Nagasaki and Kagoshima.
Start back north to Shimane then follow the coast until I'm able to come back and hit Kyoto.
North again into Ishikawa then follow the coastline until I hit Aomori at the northern most tip of the mainland.
If I don't hop a boat to Hokkaido, then I'll start back south into Iwate.
Stay consistent to Fukushima and finally to Chiba.
Return to Tokyo may be an option at this point depending on finances and other developments.

The goal is to basically walk a circle around the entire country.

i may be speaking for myself.. but i think most people in our age group.. (unless they are in college or have an incredible job) become complacent with their lives and we all just tell ourselves.. well someday i'm gonna do this, and i'm gonna do that.. and i'll have the money for this.... yet we don't do anything to work towards our goals. so we just become more and happy and more unhappy....EXACTLY! I'm sick and f*cking tired of being like that! I've been like that my entire life and I hate myself for it. F*ck that! I'm tired of feeding myself this dillusion that I'm happy when I'm not.

Transportation fees, then time for delivery, then registration, getting a license, ect...

Besides, driving around in a car defeats the whole purpose on walking around the country. That's what makes things like this so meaningful to the person doing it. Making it on your own steam, going as far as you can push yourself personally. That's what it means to me anyway. Maybe I've just got my head too far in the clouds, but whatever. :)

1) The cost of living varies from place to place just like any country.

Who knows man? I guess I'm just tired of life. I don't know why though. I have a great family, a loving girlfriend, a good paying job, and every creature comfort I could want. I'm just sick of it. Maybe I'm going to find myself or something. My mother thinks I'm going to find God. She just doesn't know that I don't plan on coming back. So, who knows? A search for love and adventure? Self-reflection? Maybe something else? I'll know it when I find it.

But really man.. Good luck. I've thought many times that I wanted to just ditch everything and just start my own new life somewhere else. But then I realized how hard you have to work. Look at the spanish immigrants.. look at how hard they work. Look at how hard most chinese and japanese people work just to be over here. This is apparently the best place to be. But I guess that's just a matter of opinion. It's really not that easy to start in another country. Not only are you having to learn the new language and styles. You have to work your ass off at something that you've probably never done before. But if it's really worth it to you.. then do it. I've love to move to the UK sometime or Australia or some place that's just different. I don't know what you have going on. But I have to give it to ya... Good luck and I really wish you the best of times. I'll donate to your cause. :goodjob:

Guys, don't bash my girlfriend. She loves me very much and I love her too. She said supports me in whatever decision I make and that she'll do anything to help me, even if it means that I leave here for good. If that's not love, I don't know what is. It just doesn't seem right to take things from her and then just be "Well thanks, I off to find a new life now. Goodbye!" I think she understands that, but we've still got a lot to talk about.

Also, to Annihilation, the goal is to be gone by the end of the year. I'm pressing everything I can to be gone by May or June so that I can beat the coming winter. In terms of my girlfriend; she may very well leave me and, to be honest, I really can't blame her after considering what I'm doing. I may even be forced to break up with her now to keep from dragging her around with me to what could be an inevitably ending relationship. That's hard to do, considering how much I care about her. I don't know man. I just don't think it's fair to keep telling her that everything will be alright and that I'll always be here when in my heart, I'd really rather be doing what I dream about. :dunno:

Maybe what I'm doing is stupid and is the worst mistake I'll ever make in my life. I mean, I could give up everything and become stranded over there should worse come to worst. Still, life is about taking chances. Yeah, I know that this is a big gamble. Yet I see it this way; all my material things can be sold and bought back later, but I only get one swing at life. Might as well swing hard. :goodjob:

Aren't you a little young to be going thru a mid-life crisis?

If you're serious about doing this, save the attention whoring and go work at McDonalds, save your pennies, stop making car payments (since credit won't matter in another country), start walking to work and leave the internet begging alone.

Sorry if I seem a little numb to your situation, but if you wanted a way out, IA wouldn't be the place to start.

Maybe a little. I don't know man, it was just bugging the sh*t out me that night and I wanted to get it out. If people want info on the situation then I give it to them. If they want to blow it off, then that's fine too.

2)I manage an online company for good pay. I AM saving my penies.

3) My Yaris is up for sale and I have a buddy who's going to sell me a car for $1000 once it's gone. Check the Cars For Sale sections.

4) Work is about 25 miles away and then I have college. Walking isn't really an option, otherwise I would.

5) Internet begging? I'm not begging for sh*t. I've put my car and a lot of my other personal stuff for sale for this trip. I put the paypal up there as an option, should anyone care to donate. If not, that's fine with me. Truth be told, I don't expect anyone to give me anything but it doesn't hurt to throw it out there.

hey Ran Kizama ... I'm new to the forum, never posted or know anyone here at IA.

Just came across your thread, and i completely understand your predicament about leaving this place (ATL, USA.. same thing). Basically I lived in Seoul most of my years, with some stints in Boston, MA, Columbia, SC and Fort Bragg, NC. I been here in ATL since '98 straight from SK to Tech, and honestly, I think about going back everyday ever since.

Just wanted to say that there are many possibilities for anyone with a drive and passion for other cultures and have a multi-cultural background. Most of my friends go back to SK after graduation to teach english because of the benefits of pay, living, and taxes (from my understanding, as an american citizen you get 2 years tax free or up to ~80k). So there are benefits to going overseas, not only to gain financial foothold in your life, but to experience something that you only can really only do when you have the opportunity while you are still young.

Here are some links to sites that cater to native English-speaking citizens (whether USA, UK, Australia, etc) to find jobs teaching english in asian countries.

The first link is specifically for S. Korea: www.worknplay.co.kr

This other link is for jobs posted for most of the far east (possibly Japan): www.eslcafe.com

Good luck with your ambitions, and hopefully you find what you are looking for in life.

not sure i'd advise nate to teach english in japan. from what i've been told by ppl that's lived/worked there for a short while, those that teach english in japan that are foreigners are typically looked down upon for some reason....obviously ur experience could be different but just a thought u should know it hasn't been all peaches and cream for others.

Being a foreigner (esp. American) in Japan, Korea or any of the asian countries that have a major US military presence does bring out a lot of tension and disrespect for foreigners, and sadly, mostly Americans.

With all the controversy surrounding American foreign policy these days and just plain old stupid people, no matter what creed or background, (who are usually American soldiers stationed in the country) that cause problems that are just ridiculous to the people of the country, be it Okinawa, or Seoul (rapes, murders, and plain old arrogant American attitude) just does not put a good light on foreigners in general.

So yes, I can imagine circumstances in which someone who is a foreigner that teaches English is 'looked down upon', but not because he/she is a foreign English teacher, but a foreigner in general. But I believe, all in all, people judge other people based on character and personal experiences.

Don't get me wrong, not trying to say that 'all' Americans stationed in asian countries are 'arrogant' or 'stupid', but some do get away from the cuckoo's nest and put a bad label on everyone who is a foreigner, and these days, its mostly toward Americans.

I'm an army brat who has been through it... but the bottom line... as long as you treat people with respect, it will be returned to you.

Thanks for the advice seoulcivicSI. I've been considering that route ever since I got out of the Army. I've actually been in college to learn how to become a teacher so I could teach overseas. While this is going well for me, I think that I'm wanting something a little more than just a job. Maybe a life experience? Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic or something. Either way, I just wanted to say thanks for the words and that I have considered that route.

Then again, nothings ever promised. You might think you have the whole world on your shoulders here, but whats promised in Japan? To other countries, the U.S is considered a paradise. But to us, there's no "paradise" here.

You're going there with 4k in your pocket and i don't think that is enough. What if you don't find a job in time and all that money is used up on the cost of food and shelter? Then you'll be out on the streets crying to your parents back here for money or a one way ticket back.

To me, you have no clue on what you're doing but just a narrow view of what you want to do. Find a place to live first before you leave and find out what type of jobs are in the area. The saying goes, " you only live once, live it to the fullest." But what if you die of starvation or become a bum trying to live your life to the fullest LOL!. Better to be safe than sorry!

I feel the same way you do at times...but i thought about moving to Arizona, just not JDM/Anime land where i know i can't adapt to a whole new environment. Good luck!

You're going there with 4k in your pocket and i don't think that is enough. What if you don't find a job in time and all that money is used up on the cost of food and shelter?$4000 in the pocket and an extra $500 a month coming in. Food is relatively cheap if you eat on a budget and I'm not too concerned about shelter. Tourist Hotels in Japan are around $25 a night should I choose to stay at one. If not, I'll just take a nap or something every here and there to keep my strength up. Public bath houses are relatively inexpensive for personal hygiene and laundry mats for keeping my clothes in decent shape.

Then you'll be out on the streets crying to your parents back here for money or a one way ticket back. That is indeed a possibility, but I'll take my chances. ;)

To me, you have no clue on what you're doing but just a narrow view of what you want to do. Find a place to live first before you leave and find out what type of jobs are in the area.To be honest, you're absolutely right. I have no idea what I'm doing. At least I know how to not know what I'm doing. :D Again, I'm not really going to find a place to live as much as I'm just looking for my life in general. Whether that consists of actually finding a home over there, or just coming to some inspirational self-discovery is yet to be determined. I gotta be honest, I have no idea what it is that I'm looking for but I'll know it when I find it. :)

The saying goes, " you only live once, live it to the fullest." But what if you die of starvation or become a bum trying to live your life to the fullest LOL!It's worth the risk IMO.

i was born in Augusta, Ga and lived there all my life until i was 18. I, then, moved to atlanta and lived there until last year. i Got sick of life. Same as a you feel. i just needed "more". I'm in Suwon, Korea right now teaching English and just traveling around. i've been here for 6 months and i feel like i made the right decision. Just do it. You won't regret it. There's so much beauty and wonder out there that one place just cant give you. One country for that matter. I know people understands that there is more things to know than whats in the borders of their country. But once you really go out and travel to different countries and experience different cultures and meet different people from all over the world. Only then you will realize how much people is missing from life. I hope you find what you are looking for. Take care. Goodluck.

point is, i see exactly where you're coming from. although i wouldn't do anything nearly as extreme. just seems like you haven't thought it completely through. plus, your immune system probably isn't ready to be homeless in america, much less backpacking through the japanese countryside. you go out there and spend a few months in the country and end up getting bit by one of those giant centipedes, or a pit viper, or a mosquito with encephalitis, and then what? you're fucked.

but you have your mind set on it, so best of luck.

God bless.

I hope you feel better tomorrow.

you can't understand where i'm coming from because you grew up in a completely different culture. in america it's all about money, while over there, it's all about enjoying yourself and not worrying about money. both are extremes, and neithier is perfect, but apparently the benefit outweighs the cost here. it does have a bearing on my life, since i like to enjoy myself while i'm young and have the chance. what good is money if it's sitting in my bank account and i'm sitting on my ass at home bored out of my fucking mind because i don't feel like hitting up another party for the 9th week in a row and am too young to go to a club or bar.

quickdodge®

you can't understand where i'm coming from because you grew up in a completely different culture.

No. What I don't understand is you pick up your life and move it here. Your choice to come to another country that has it's laws already in place. Laws which you probably already knew mostly about. Then you get here and bitch about how it "pisses" you off. If it really pisses you off and it's that big of a deal, then go back so you won't spend so much time bored.

in america it's all about money, while over there, it's all about enjoying yourself and not worrying about money.

Honestly, that's how I am. I don't care about being rich. I want to be ok and have what I have and not struggle.

it does have a bearing on my life,[ since i like to enjoy myself while i'm young and have the chance.

I find it kind of sad that drinking plays a role in your life. I've had a great, fulfilling life(so far) and I have never drank alcohol in any of that time.

what good is money if it's sitting in my bank account and i'm sitting on my ass at home bored out of my fucking mind

So the only thing in the US to do to spend money to avoid being bored is party and drink? There are thousands upon thousands of stuff to do here that doesn't involve that. Again, if drinking and partying plays a big enough role in your life for you to get pissed at our laws, then go back. Pretty cut and dry.

BTW, I'm not flaming you now, just conversing. Later, QD.

disrupt
03-19-2007, 04:45 PM
i knew barely anything about the laws here when i moved(i moved with my parents). i assumed they were pretty liberal, being that you do advertise the whole land of the free thing. second, the alcohol is a minor part in it, the social atmosphere is what matters. everything in america closes at 9 sans restaurants, clubs, and bars(and theaters cut off at what, 10:15 last showing for most?) and yeah partying plays enough of a role in my life to get pissed at the laws. i still don't see why you're getting so defensive over me vocalizing my opinion. it's not cut and dry, what you're trying to sell to me is like me saying you should move to australia because you don't like george bush. i mean seriously. but yeah, you like going to graveyards in the middle of the night and taking pictures of shiny dust particles, i like to go to parties and hang out with friends and girls. i've been to plenty of parties where i haven't drank a drop due to DD duty. the alcohol isn't that big, i don't care about the drinking i care about getting into the damn place.

p.s. i'm just naturaly argumentative. i figure you are too.so yea i understand the no flaming thing, i'm not getting angry over it and i'm not taking it personal. after all, it is the internet.

damn i need to sleep or something. i keep having to edit cause i'm typing stuff differently than i want it to come out, if that makes any sense lol.

If by bizarre, random, stroke of luck I manage to find somebody to get me a job, housing, and sponsor a work visa, then great! You'll never see me again! Fat chance of that happening though. Therefore, at this point in time, I hope you can settle for that I'm going for "open-ended" reasons. :goodjob:

lol, my buddy told me I should go over and have some quick affair with a Japanese woman so I can marry into citizenship. :lmao:

so basically you're gonna wander til you run out of money and then what? :thinking:I'll figure that out later. I've got money held on the side for a ticket back should it come to that. I'd rather not spend all my money and get stranded. :lmao: Pretty much going over there on a dream and instinct. Again, not sure what may or may not be waiting for me over there, but I'll figure it out once I'm there.

Die while jacking off to lil girl hentai?I can do that here, but thanks for the contributing post. @sshole :lmao:

The passport is only valid in Japan for a consecutive 90days. After that, I may return home or just hope a boat to S.Korea and see my extended family then go back to Japan. We'll see.

Go to Belize, bartend, fix boat engines, and fuck the hell out of every hot tourist you see. I was about 2 seconds from doing that before I met my girlfriend....now I am 3 seconds away.
