If WOW is a convienent location, I suggest you just go there to sit on a couple bikes and see what you like. As far as buying a bike, I bought my bike 2005 gsxr600 brand new for $7000 OTD in North Carolina, where in GA they wanted $8500

QD, are you looking for used, new, and/or dealership only bikes? I haven't bought any out of the box new bikes, but all of my bikes have been bought used from private sellers at fractions of what they cost at local dealerships (with much less mileage). also if you're paying cash or personal loan, you can save many hundreds by buying from a private party.

What exactly are you looking for? These easiest new bike to be financed is Honda. Suzuki and Kawasaki factory financing use 3rd party finance companies. Usually, these 3rd party finance companies are harder to get financed if your credit or debit-to-income is 'iffy'. Kawasaki right now is using GE Financial which is a bitch... If you find what you're looking for shoot me a PM. Maybe I can help you out.

go with a kawasaki zzr 600, cheap, realible, easily maintained... good starter bike... or an aprilla 500? all depends on your size, and where you ride... a 250 is dangerous, not enough powertoget out of the way, if you needed to do so.

Being that you are older and wiser than the usual kid on here wanting a bike, I would suggest a 500, or one of the toned down 600's (zzr600, cbr600f4i, yzf600, etc). Basically one without the "R" at the end of the name. They have a lot better seating position also.

SV650 would also be a good choice. They are cheap and abundant. Parts are also cheap. And you can do anything with them. Comfortable enough for long trips, or very trackable.

We just got one for my better half and I love it.

I think the honda f4i would be a good first bike. My first bike is the new r6 and i dont have any problems what so ever. Its just how you treat the bike. The bike doesnt kill you, its how you treat it, others around you, and your gear..

QD, I would suggest you get a GS500 or EX500 (used) for a starter bike. Cheap to get, easy to sell when you need more. You are old enough and mature enough to even step up to a real 600 for starters. Just don't buy a new bike. You will drop it. If you want me to help you find one for cheap, I can. I can probably help you out with the financing also if it is a cheap bike. You will need some riding gear also, PM me and I will help you locate some.

I do have a Snell 95 full face helmet that I bought in 1999 and only wore for once a month for about an hour for two years. So maybe a total of no more than 30 hours tops. You will definately need a new helmet. Helmets have a shelf life. They start deteriorating after a few years. Generally, no more than 5 years on a helmet.

You will also need gloves, a jacket, some boots, and some Draggin Jeans. Some of it you can get used or on clearance to start off really cheap. I might be able to dig up some extra gear off some of the guys also.

You should consider taking the MSF course, but if you want to save some money, you can come over after you pick up a bike, and I can teach you the exact same things for free (rather than the $250 for the class). I've taught a few people (all are still alive). The MSF course will get you your real license though.

Its all personal preference. HJC fits my head retardedly, where Shoei feels awesome.

I think your talking about a race class. MSF teaches you the basic fundumentals of riding the proper way.

I guess i'll chime in and add a vote for no purchasing from WOW. Although they do keep a huge number of bikes in that place. You could use them to find a bike that fits you well, you know, try it on for size. Other than that, you should highly consider staying away from them. I have spoken to many customers that have bought from there and also seen some of the bikes that they have sold, nearly all of them have something bad to say, even if you took their words with a grain of salt. It's just not worth it for your first time around.

If you ever need one looked over, just bring it over to me and i'll have look around it to make sure everything is straight.

why is everyone hating on the SV's looks? sure it's not the latest and greatest ss bike, but the SV and SVS both have a good style and there are tons of cool parts out there to turn them into whatever you want.

the SV650 gets my vote almost every time. after throwing a leg over an ex250/500 and gs500 they really leave someone our size wanting more. i'm 6' 200lbs and the SV is just right when you learn to ride it hard, but still nice and tame and usable on the street. not to mention they are affordable and stone cold reliable.


as for helmets and gear, more expensive does not always mean better. but don't cheap out just to have something either. don't waste your money on a mesh jacket, go with a nice fitting perforated leather. get real leather gloves as well, no mesh or nylon "summer" gloves. the one time i crashed i was damn lucky to have good gloves or i wouldn't have palms left on my hands.
