alright so i bought NBA 2K7 LESS THAN A WEEK AGO.

Dan and i have been playing the shit out of it everynight after work. well in the last couple of days, its started freezing up an shutting off. SO i took the game out yesterday, and there is a PERFECTLY cut ring in the center of the CD/DVD that you can feel with your fingernail

OMGWTFBBQ

i checked all my other games an they were fine. my XBOX stands vertical, im going to email xbox support an see if they can do anything for me. wtf could have caused this? anyone had similar problems?

probably caused by the game disc getting extremely hot like 360s are notorious for and the laser making quick work of a weakened disc cause of heat. Get one of those stands with extra fans in it.

interesting, i figured it was an overheating issue.

where can you buy the fans at?

they actually say that the fans keep the heat in but they won't recall them

they actually say that the fans keep the heat in but they won't recall them

because xbox doesn't make them yet.. so they dont want you buying other companies crap..

do not buy the fans they will fuck you system up my boy has been through 2 360's and used the fan and when he got his 3rd he finally listened to me and not gotten one heres how you do it. find something square to lay your 360 on horozontally with but dont have anything sitting close to the back or the open side "opposite of the hard drive" the 360 will always remain cool and allow air to continuously pass through it. ive had my 360 for a good minute and on weekends "when bored" i play the shit out of it with no issues. Also stops any chance of discs being eaten up also ive said it before and when folks finally listen there games and 360 runs way cooler good luck though.

i have problems with mine freezing from time to time, but the only time i ever had it actually do a nice little circular gash in the game was when i moved the system when it was running... ya dont do that. other than that, i got no clue what would of caused it to cut your disc up.

your NOT supposed to stand the 360 up vertically while the game is on, and your NOT supposed 2 move the 360 while the game is on, it will destroy the game. This already happend to 3 of my friends with the same exact game

Why would you move the 360 when a game is running? it is not your walkman or ipod

leave your xbox horizontal w/ ample space around/above it for cooling. i have mine on a stand like below off the ground and my power supply is sitting on the bottom of the stand so it isn't touching carpet as well. you shouldn't have any problems w/ a similiar setup - i've played like 8+ hours straight w/o 1 issue; other then having to take bathroom breaks + answer the door for the pizza man :D

You're also not supposed to transport your 360 places with a game inside of it.

What Paul said. There are an endless number of complaints for the XBOX360 scratching games when standing up vertically. I mean, just look at it when you put the disk in there. Doesn't exactly look very secure, does it? Lay it down horizontally with plenty of clearance room for cool and you should be fine.

don't buy an intercooler, and sit it horizontal :goodjob:

make sure your power supply box is in an open space and not cramped in a confined space....

and I use to play with my xbox upright, but after seeing what it did to a rental game, I've layed it down flat since....

as far as the intercooler, I have one. It doesnt make much of a difference for playing games an hour here or an hour there, but it makes a huge difference when you are playing for 4-5hrs continuously. Mine use to lock up after about 2 hours or so, but I bit the bullet and bought the intercooler and I've probably put my poor old 360 thru countless hours of GOW, and R6 LV with my buddies and never had a problem since. It's quite noticeable that the box isnt warm to touch, you put your hand behind the intercooler and you definately feel hot air being pulled, so it is pulling the hot air out instead of lingering inside and slowly being drawn out by the 360's stock internal fans.

it's a love hate thing with them, some people hate them so much, and some people swear by them....oh yeah, the guys who hate them bought the first gen intercoolers which did have problems, which Nyoko would gladly switch at no charge. The new ones that are out now, are suppose to be problem free....and like I said, mine has gone thru many, many, many hours with no problems. I had a pelican before, but it's fucking ghey....the fans are weak and can barely pull or cool the 360 at all...

here's a pic of both.....

nyoko (unit can stand or lay horizontally)
http://media.teamxbox.com/xbox-hardware/ss/57/1143641027.jpg

pelican (you have to stand the unit upright to use this one)

http://www.play-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/pelican-fan-stand-xbox-360.jpg

like I said, I am just stating my personal experince....

so to recap...
lay the 360 down, dont play upright...
Nyoko Intercooler works better than the Pelican, and I havent had any problems with it messing up my 360 or burning it out, apparently the 1st gen ones did, but those are long gone...

btw to all the 360 jiggas that get the red ring of death or their shit is broke to no fault of their own, you can contact Microsoft and they will replace it, but you will have to fork over the shipping of your unit, but they will cover the cost to return ship it to you, my buddy has done it 4 times....luckily I bought the warranty with ebgames, 1 year no questions asked complete replacement if the unit no longer works.

the nyoko intercooler is like 20 bucks

the pelican is 15 bucks

oh yeah, the intercooler is noisy...but as long as it does it's job I could careless

Damn I had a cd player that cut all of my cds in the same spot. It sucked. It's probably a lot worse when the what it is cutting costs $40-60.

see, that's what i was initially reading, and I bought the pelican because I noticed that my 360 would get hot to the touch....and the pelican cooled it some...but not very much, so after more reading and researching I found out that Nyoko already revamped the design and fixed the internals so that the 360 wouldnt short out or the prongs become burned like the 1st series that came out with the first batch of 360's, apparently they fixed the problem and lots of people have had good luck, myself included....like I said before to give a rough estimate, I've probably put about 200+hrs on it with the intercooler with 0 problems.

Again, this is from personal experince and after the research I did on the web about it.

why do u say that? i've put about 60 hours on mine and have had 0 problems with it since installed. Before installation, froze up like crazy. Espcially one week after owning it. I vote FOR the intercooler.

i was going to ad the bottom intercooler one, but i don't stand mine up anymore. you could probably pull the covers off and drill a few more holes in it for more cooling.

not gonna take the time to read the rest of this thread...

this is not caused by over heating... it's caused by slight vibrations.. or hard vibrations.. like bumping the box... set it horizontall.. should help out... i've got the fans on mine and it works fine...

basically DON'T TOUCH UR BOX IF IT'S VERTICAL! if u hear a crazy noise turn the box off immediately....

there is a hack u can do to fix this.. involves taking ur box apart.. putting some rubber foam in it... also buy some game protectors.

i mean yeah everyone will have different experiences. if every single intercooler sucked then they wouldn't be in the market. personally though i'd rather not take that chance. i have my 360 laying flat on top of my tv (there's a flat stand thing on top) and i just make sure i don't place anything on top or behind it, never really had any problems so far with it overheating.

lol, get a bunch of drunk army buddies over and start talking smack on who's better at GOW, Madden 07, Tiger Woods 07, or R6....and you're in for hours upon hours of play time!

trust me, you are better off without it even if you did stand it up....it really didnt make a difference, as the intercooler sucks the hot air out, the pelican simply blows air up into the system, but the fan is so weak that it wasnt enough to push it out the top vents, it's cool one version you can recharge your wireless remote packs and have a place to put your controller...but dont bet it will cool your system off.
