Alright. Im kinda a newb when it comes to the dirty dirty engine stuff. I am debating on whether to swap my engine or boost my semi-stock engine (the engine thats in there is newer than the one that came in the car). However I would LOVE to stay emissions legal and I would only like to do one or the other. Im leaning more toward the engine cause my tranny needs to be swapped anyway, and also cause whoever swapped the engine before took the sound deadaning out from the engine bay and it needs to be replace (Dynamat FTW). The car is a 1997 Honda Accord EX 4 speed slushmatic and my engine of choice would be an H22. So any feedback, rants, flames, pics or whatnot is appreciated

fucking boost! here is what you need to weigh... can your car make more power w/ boost? if it can and it cost less do it. most people spend all of their money on a swap and then they can't afford to boost it. you go but H22 then swap it... i would think you could do a rebuild + turbo on your motor for the same price.

d-series bitch

I dont recall a D series being bigger than a 1.6l? Yeah that would work wonders in an accord :2up:

Nice info :goodjob: But at the same time, could the car stay emissions legal? I dont wanna trip alot of codes cause im OBD2 and its harder/more expensive to pass. As far as rebuild, the engine prolly dont have more than 60k on the dial. I have the paperwork on the motor just havent looked at it

it might not need a rebuild, but some people like new gaskets/seals when doing major upgrades on the engine... but as i was saying the cost is probably cheaper to go boost and you would make more power. if you go h22 you have to pay for motor + install (that means takeing your motor out putting h22 in = lots of labor $$$)... if they make a turbo kit for your car i would be done w/ it. you should be able to pass emissions... you drive a honda they aren't reeventing the wheel.

talk to Arash @ Mahdavi or Mike @ Mainstream... those are the 2 best honda/acura shops in GA.

BOOST GEOFF! BOOST!

the emissions thing kinda sucks but other than that its ok.

your motor will hold up just fine. I have been boosted for over 20k miles running 10psi daily driven with no problems. it might cost you a little bit more to boost it but you will make way more power and torque.

my car makes 100 ft lbs more torque than an H22.

I say keep that car stock, sell it, and get a 5th gen prelude 5 sp. That's exactly what i did.

but which motor will have more potential in the long run is the question

H22 IMO better potential for the longhaul. If it is a daily driven i wouldn't boost it. AND IT'S A AUTOMATIC BOOST WILL KILL THAT TRANSMISSION.

definitly not boosting the auto tranny! Whichever goes down the tranny will the first thing to go.

BOOST it, I will help you swap a manual tranny in the car, just gather all the shit, the swap isn't that hard.

Sweet! chadbee was showin me a turbo kit from his sponsor that wasnt too shabby either. But i'd like to get the tranny done ASAP, the thing is probably on its last leg NE way. Have you seen it yet w/ the wheels on it?
