On a road course I can see that happening. I just relate it to my motocross back round. I refuse to ride 4 strokes, I keep my 2 stroke, and still have won several 125 A class championships on it, among 4 strokes. At smaller local events back home, I've also won the 250 A class on my 125. Its all about your skills depending on the type of racing your doing.

Here's the problem with the Experience > Money thing. Money buys experience.

I would sure love to see a video of what's happening. i could see that miata about to get passed.

miata getting lapped. whats to discuss?

I'm not arguing, I'm speaking from what I have experience in.

I grew up in a racing back round. Motocross, Sprint cars, shifter karts, and snow mobiles. When I was racing 80's, I rode my KX 80 in the School boy class which was 12-15y/o's 82CC to 124CC 2 stroke class. I had several times won that class on my 80.

In sprint cars, I ran a 305 against big block sprints and 360 sprints, and have also pulled several feature wins.

In shifter karts I ran a basically stock YZ 125, against big bores, and stroker motors, all of which on alcohol, including me.

Granted I agree fully about the Miata being passed in the straights for sure. But whats to say that the driver isn't experienced enough and there was enough tight sections on the course, that he did infact come back? Or the straights were very short and minute and by the time they got out of a tight section he had enough to keep his lead? I'm just trying to look at this in different perspectives

^No one cares, they were just fucking around. Oh, and that could be an ls1 powered miata :)

Damn ya'll. It was a simple Thing that could've made for an interesting discussion. Instead ya'll just assume Viper=win. O'well

Viper does = win in this case. That might be why.

Exactly. Someone just shot that pic at a perfect time to give the appearance that it is ahead of them. You guys are idiots if you think otherwise. Jmmx. You're just an idiot regardless. Later, QD.

if its a tight course i could see the miata beating the vipers. its so light you can carry so much speed in and just whip it through the turns where a viper is a much heavier car you have to slow it down more due to understeer.

Here's the problem with that assumption. In the picture they are in the middle of a series of turns, yet the vipers are right on the tail of the Miata. If your argument held true in this case, the Miata would have to pull far ahead in the turns, in order to leave him enough space to stay ahead in any straights on the course.

i agree with the quote but not the picture...if the miata was replaced with a Z,evo, or sti it might make more sense. The Z, evo, and sti are still cheaper than the viper and can be modded to go as fast if not even faster than a viper and numerous other cars for half the price of a viper.

Gee how about that? Do you know how much longer they're going to be in tight sections? Do you know how long the straights are? nope! and neither do we. It could go either way

Nowadays you can find a GTS for under 40k... That's 450hp, 12sec 1/4 mile, and .98g on a skid pad. And that's before just dropping a couple grand on a nice S/C.

Trust me I know what you're saying, but here's the thing. The main advantage the Miata has is it's ability to brake later than the Vipers, plain and simple. If it can't offset the Viper's power and corning capabilities (both of which are better than the Miata's) off of braking alone, it is going to have a very tough time staying ahead.

It also could be the Viper owners don't feel like risking their cars against a POS mazda in the corners and are waiting for the straights to pass.

Regardless of what's actually happening in that picture (we will NEVER know for sure), it's all about the driver. That and power-to-weight. A good driver in a built, turbo Miata (with let's say 350whp), will crush stock Vipers all day on a track...especially if the Miata driver is actually a better driver than the guys in the Vipers.

OEM vs OEM...not even worth arguing.

That Miata is getting raped no doubt about it. If i am not mistaken don't you have to pass all qualification or something like that? So that it wouldn't be just a fuck fest for situations like that.

I agree with what you said however you either have to go OEM vs OEM or Modded vs Modded, none of this "But my 1000hp civic could totally kill that McLaren F1 for 1/23423543th the price!" It's ridiculous.

Thats all I was really saying. Despite what the picture says, there is still that possibility. As slim as it may be. I was just trying to go for an interesting discussion.

Whats to discuss....we all know that Fawk_You is driving that Miata. That alone is enough to have a group of Snakes chasing her ass (No pun intended). Of course they will stay behind Fawk_You....I know I would. I like the view back there!!!! :goodjob:

Not exactly relavant to the picture but regarding exp and money is very true. My neighbor is a qualified instructor at Road Atlanta (has razed miata cup for OPM on occasion and in many porsche club racing events). He sold his 93 996RS a few years ago to buy a basic 2003 911 TT for more practical daily use. He still goes and tracks with it and says he is beating guys in race built GT2's that don't know shit about how to drive the car properly.

First of all, maybe you guys are taking this too seriously.

Its just a picture. A picture that might not be true, but is funny.

Caturday pictures are funny and you don't sit there and say " oh that cat wasn't thinking that!" You sit there and take what it is for face value and laugh. Thats all this is dipshits.

The 996 started in 98. So once again, WTF is a 93 996RS???

Speaking from experience, at this track:

http://www.motorsportranch.com/images/misc/Track_Layout_1_7.jpg

we would pass Vipers in our Miatas and stay ahead until the 2 main straights.
