Question about gas consumption???

Ok so common sense is that if you rev to high your engine uses more gas. But is there such a thing as being too low? Like if my car idles around 1500 and I shift from 4th (would be going at around 3500-4000) to 5th on the high way and just kinda cruise at 2000-2500. I mean not like trying speed up or down, just kinda keeping speed up. Can that cause extra stress on the engine to consume more gas than would be used at around 3500-4000? I mean basically what I would be doing is gaining speed and then up shifting shifting and basically just rolling with the momentum of the car.

Not really, as long as you can get into a higher gear without stalling the car out, its good.

I suppose if you are shifting to low while accelerating its possible but I doubt you are using more gas than normal in the situation your talking about.

I think you might use more gas if you're too low and u bog, cause u dont go no where and u have to like slam on da gas and its just sittin there...

No, you will not use more gas unless you're overcompensating for the low speed by depressing the gas pedal too much (which hopefully you wouldn't be doing)

Shift before 3k and you should be good*

for conservation purposes only of course. lol

As long as you don't compensate with the pedal, and the engine isn't straining, you'll be alright.

you can use more gas if you at to low of a rpm trying to pull.... like say your in 5th gear or 6th gear, which ever is your top gear for your car, and your trying to go from say 45 to 70 then iw ould say yes if you were trying to push the gas pedal down all the way to gain it.. stuff like that if you can understand my rambling

Ya I understand, im talkin just hit like 70 then up shift and just coast it alond giving a little gas throughtout. Not like chugging but just coasting.

I've actually done that before. That is definitely something I do not want to happen again. :(
