I own a 1990 Honda Civic LX 4DR. I am slowly working on it because money is hard to come by for me but I have always thought of getting a new engine for my car. A B16. But I always want to go for something that would be rare. I couldn't think think of anything more rare of a 1990 Honda Civic with a nice engine and stuff right. What about have the stock engine just rebuilt? I know I couldn't have a lot of power out of it but I never really wanted anymore than like 200hp or so anyways. So I am asking the members of IA to help me out with this choice. Is it a wise one or stupid to think that I can do anything with my stock engine?

yeah, you can do something with your stock engine.. and there has been nice stuff done with the single cam engines, you could always boost it :D

depending on how much it would cost for you to rebuild you current engine, you might want to make the swap to a B16 :goodjob:

1st thing you need to do is a mpfi swap! thats a start and see how you like the car with 4 injectors rather than 2. A cheap power adder is a 88-91 Si camshaft or SOHC ZC camshaft.

my car had over 235,000 miles on it and was running strong! I just decide to step my game up alittle bit and swap a b16 in my rex. if you want to replace your motor and for cheap look into the dohc ZC, sohc ZC, or d15b. Those motor would be the best bad for your buck!

If you don't care about going too fast, I would just replace it with another stock engine.

dude those are a great car. i bought my 91 dx with 144k on the clock, did mpfi and boosted it. i beat the heck outta that dx motor (d15b2) and couldnt get it to blow, even at like 12-13psi (maxing out stock map). finally it just started getting so much blow by i took it out. i coulda slapped a new set of rings in and been fine lol. you can get a jdm replacement engine(low miles) for less than you could rebuild your current engine.

your car is dual point fuel (dpfi) injected (your fuel & air is supplied through throttle body injection) which is very limited. a si or ex is multi point fuel (mpfi) injected where your fuel is injected into the block by 4 injectors (more common). Theres more aftermarket support for mpfi!

Oh, ok. So about how much does it run to convert that? And thank you all for the input. Now I don't feel like I wasting my time by doing little things to this engine to give it a little more power.

it really depends on where u get your parts from (ranging from $100{hookup}-$400{mostly new parts}). if you are really interested pm EF_SCOTSMAN and he got (or had) everything you need

complete intake manifold, 88-91 Civic/CRX Si dizzy and ecu (i got the ecu!!!), resistor box, and injector subharness (or converted engine harness www.rywire.com). That's all you need!!!

{oh yeah if you ever do a engine swap you got to wire your car up for mpfi anyways}

Wow thanks. When I get more money Ill take a deeper look into it. I got some hook ups with some guys at the Nopi in Doraville where I live at. They gave me a really amazing deal on some Steal threaded brake lines and Drilled and slotted rotors. But, like I said, Ill look deeper into it when I get more time and money. But I do have an cold air intake on the way. First one I ever bought.

If times are tough I'd suggest one thing. Don't build up your car and if you want speed try on some leathers and enter the world of two wheels. Think about it.

Na, I like my 4 wheels. I have been on a few bikes before and they just aren't for me. I would be the guy that would be wrapped around a tree.
