everyone keeps telling me to lap my valves....what does that mean, and is it something I can do myself.....thanx:goodjob:

You can do it yourself. I used a valve lapping tool and valve grinding compound. You put the compound on the valve where it sits in the seat, and use the tool turning it, you can hear it scraping, and once its sounds smooth, you should be good to go

I am building a b16a head and I got a set of skunk2 valves and people keep telling me to lap the valves.....

If you are replacing valves its a good thing to do so the valves seat properly

OH I KNOW WHAT ITS FOR LOL I WAS JUST MAKING SURE HE DID SINCE I KEEP SEEING PEOPLE USING TERMS THEN ASKING LATER WHAT IT MEANS..

the best thing to do is take it to a machine shop , the laping compound is to see were the valve is seating, but to get a true seating on the valve is to have a machine shop do a valve job

I guess lapping is like the old school way of doing it with low compression lower rpm engines but now with higher tolerance engines running up to 8k rpm cutting the seat and margins would be best.
hum but even if you get a valve job then lapped them would they not mushroom after awhile anyways??
