I am thinking about buying satellite radio for my car as well as my house. I have signed up for a 3 day account online for both. I like the programming on sirius better, but XM has over twice as many channels. I have also heard that Sirius sounds like AM radio. What do you guys have and how has it worked out for you? I did not post this in the audio and ice section since I am looking into this for my house just as much as my cars. any good feedback will receive pos rep points. useless comments will receive neg. dont come in here and bullshit unless you want to contribute.

I greatly enjoy and have enjoyed Sirius satellite. I am doing XM right now because, for a helluva deal, I acquired an XM unit. It's real cool, too, but I still prefer Sirius. Later, QD.

i use XM for over a year now and its great. IT sounds 1000 time better if you actually use a satellite ready radio that links directly to an XM or sirius brain rather than the fm modulator garbage units.

I got sirius as well. Although I haven't installed it in the new car yet, don't have a place to put the little reciever and I don't want to mount it with the rubber thing on the windshield.

the a4 didn't come w/satellite preinstalled?

ironchef

It does, but I have to buy the audi $300 receiver for it to work, the wiring and stuff is preinstalled though.

i gave drew xm for his birthday last year.. he loves it! his parents got us the xm home system for christmas and it came with an extra xm receiver so i think we are gonna hook it up in my car too! i love the '90's station lol :)

ShooterMcGavin

hey for those with xm or sirius, once u have one account does that mean u can use it in more than 1 application? as in, can u use it in another car and/or ur home?

kelly marie
02-08-2007, 08:58 AM
with xm you can just remove the unit and place it in your home receiver (if you have one) b/c the home device has the antenna... you can only put the unit in another car if you hook up an antenna there too..

if you want to operate two separate units you have to have two separate services but with xm its only about 5 bucks to add another plan.. i think xm runs about 12-15 bucks a month but drew paid for the entire year so i don't remember :(

ShooterMcGavin
02-08-2007, 09:03 AM
yeah their pricing is similar i believe but i didn't know w/xm it's only another $5 per line. not sure what sirius offers but i'd imagine it'd be similar.

funny thing w/all this xm vs sirius stuff is that somewhere down the road there's a mighty good chance they'll merge.

kelly marie
02-08-2007, 09:12 AM
yep yep.. i'm sure one day they'll merge :)

when he called to active it on the phone, the whole thing was automated.. he couldn't just talk to a person.. it was kinda strange.. it was like a thrity minute call b/c he kept having to repeat himself lol.. i wonder if they finally have actual operators

ShooterMcGavin
02-08-2007, 09:30 AM
hahaha yeah, sirius had these automated calls to me like nonstop right when i was supposed to renew.

I had Sirius and ive installed XM. XM's to me sound more like AM. I had the separate tuner that hooks to the back of aftermarket radios. Sirius has less commercials (less than half of XMs channels are commercial free) and plus I think it sounds better IMO. But the main decision is up to you and what programming you like best. No sense in paying for extra channels you aren't gonna listen too anyway, right?

green91
02-08-2007, 10:57 AM
both sirius and xm are pay per receiver, it doesnt matter if u take the receiver in and out of your car house boat etc.. its 12.99 for the first receiver and 6.99 for every one after that. and if you activate them online its cheaper than by phone.

Well I work at Best Buy and install both all day long. We get a lot more sirius than we do XM they all sound alright if you get the wired FM mod but you have to have one. I like sirius better because of the programing and I like their unit's better. If you want the best sound get one that hooks directly to your deck. Hope that helps

Its one of those built in console type things, not a removable din or double din unit.

If you have a Sirius account, you can listen to it online also... I think with XM you can do the same..

just stick with a regular CD player. it's easier, and you don't have to pay a monthly charge.
