wus up everyone my friend has a 97 del sol si he is havin a problem with the o2 sensors and needs to pass emissions.the old oem exhaust manifold was cracked in alot of places and he was having a hard time finding another oem manifold and cat under 200 with out instalation included so he jus bought aftermarker headers and downpipe and an universal legit catalytic convertor.in order to install it the o2 sensors had to be extended and shops were tellin me a lot of diferent things like if u extend the sensor the light will come on and that the sensor must be behind the cat or it wont work either.but ive heard of plenty of people doin this with no prob is this true or does it matter at all?can some one help us out with this ive searched but ive only gotten bits and pieces but not enough to figure this out.

You must have the front sensor in front of the cat and the other one behind it. As for extending the wires i really dont see why it would cause a problem.

well when we changed the exhaust and put the sensors in it said the second sensor was bad so we got a new one and now for some reason its sayin the first one is bad. makes no sense to me

I would clear the codes from the ecu and see if the CEL comes back.

switch them and see what happens if it says the rear one again then u know that, that O2 sensor is bad.

yea but the first time we did it it said the 2nd senser then when we replaced it,it went to the first sensor.that doesnt make sense if the first one isnt anygood then it would have read that the first sensor was bad from the start then when we replace it then it should read 2nd sensor right?

Ok but now u switch them, Ok so its saying the first ones bad now, when it was saying the second one was bad u replaced it then it said the first one, so switch them and if it says the second one go return it, if it says the first one again then u know they are both good O2's but you have a wiring problem.... Thats what I would do, its just a free way of checking it....
