there are 4 types of "superchargers" that do basicly the same thing, but do it in fairly diffrent mannors...................... roots, twin screw, g-ladder, and centrifigual...........

ok smart ass justin, i was waiting for someone to say something like that, but like you said they r basicaly the same thing

They all force more CFM into a motor than it can process, flow vs. restiance = pressure/boost.

To really get a true answer you have to know about each device, limitations, effecenty, charicteristics, ect. ............. There is a world of diffrence between superchargers.................. enough to really group them seperatly.........even though they do basicly the same thing

my pick of superchargers: twinscrew
Of course my car is turbo'd, but that's mainly because it was cheaper than a twinscrew............................

Depends on what kinda of car and what the car is going to be used for, but gonna have to go with Turbo. ;)

I guess I'm the only one that likes superchargers then. They are usually bolt on kits, are very reliable, improves the entire power band, fast off the line even at low rpm, and there isn't as much to worry about. I, however, am the only person on this board that doesn't care about HP though.

Maki

i find turbo more versitile but i have also had s/c. they both are nice but since i dont run a V8 (kinda steriotypical) ill have to go with a turbo

Bruce Leroy

I hate turbo lag. So i would say supercharger.

Maki
02-05-2007, 10:43 AM
If you correctly match the turbo to your set up, turbo lag is almost non existant. its only when you have a massive turbo on a tiny motor or is tuned wrong (or not at all) and possibly if you are running a journal bearing turbo is when you encounter "lag".

even on the stock turbo vehicles that i've driven, there is that split second of turbo lag right after you press gas. It annoys the SHIT out of me.

Big J
02-05-2007, 02:57 PM
damn that slight delay right before it makes twice the power an simular NA motor would make

TURBO!!!!!!!!

Supercharger.

Better driveability and throttle response, especially on higher HP builds. The only downside is being driven off the engine.

You forgot electric superchargers as a type

lol

Maki
02-06-2007, 01:39 PM
The reason stock turbo cars are laggy is because og the tiny exhaust. the bigger the exhaust the faster the spool up.

wantboost
02-06-2007, 01:48 PM
^^lolol, i have never considered any stock turbo car that i have driven to be laggy.

Maki
02-06-2007, 03:08 PM
it is once you put an exhaust on or move to a ball bearing turbo then almost all other turbos feel laggy

JstAneon
02-06-2007, 03:46 PM
I like my turbos lag. It's works like a traction aid for me.

^^lolol, i have never considered any stock turbo car that i have driven to be laggy.Drive a stock Mazdaspeed MX-5, then drive one with an intake, exhaust, BOV (stock one leaks), and throttle body hardpipe (stock one is rubber). Night and day difference.

Night and day difference. i was comparing stock turbo lag to larger aftermarket turbo in which case the stock turbo lag does not feel so bad. but yes i agree i/e does help.

Apparantly there are two of us then! sweet

Power is not everything, suspension plays a larger role than the engine does... hands down.

I, however, choose Teh Twerboz

Maki
02-08-2007, 01:00 PM
i agree also. high hp i could care less about. i love a well handling car. 300 hp is plenty on a back road

SuperCharger!!!!!!!!

02-15-2007, 06:29 PM
I have a supercharger and I like the quick boost but I would rather have a turbo!

Tatiana
02-21-2007, 03:37 PM
Supercharger!!!! And screw that bitch twice, thank ya kindly! :idb:

You turbo guys wanna go into changing intake, exhausts, etc. etc. when all twin screw has to worry about is the engine's ability to rev it up. get you a lighter fly wheel, and get r done!

spoolnteg
02-23-2007, 10:28 AM
I would have to say turbo. I also agree with the above mentioned, If you match the turbo up with the setup and get it tuned then there should almost be no lag. Another thing that matters is the boost controller, I have found out that depending on the type of conntroller used it can creat lag and i know for a fact they do. So all in all if you have it setup right for a decent amount of power like 300 or somthing on a honda motor there should be almost no lag.. But hey what do i know:rolleyes:

I got nothing against superchargers bcuz they have there advantages. But, imho, the big advantage of a turbo is the upgradability of more aspects of the setup.

AnthonyF
06-25-2007, 08:23 AM
turbos have more "play" in them. You can play with the boost while driving, turn it down for DD, less stress for the motor to turn.

i am running an S/C and at 13psi i was making like 40-50hp less than the turbo guys at the same PSI. so...a turbo is a way better choice.

lopros86

this debate is pointless - in the end it depends on how you are using the car.

sleepys4
06-26-2007, 12:12 AM
Turbo ftw, Lag is your split secound to get ready, or for your car to look for traction. So lag in a sense is your friend, except ch@dbee. Turbo AWD FTW!

sc for road racing and drivability, turbo for drag and high torque/hp. sc is def. more rare and unique and sc has the sleeper effect.

Turbo!!!

SL65AMG
08-02-2007, 09:48 PM
a turbocharger is free power because it runs off of the exhaust.

superchargers use about 30-40% of the power they make to run itself.

turbo for a 4-banger or v6 - makes the power needed to compete w/ v8's
supercharger for a v8 - cant be beat.... and it sounds so good when its whining...oh man

So... People are talking about car with turbo like the BMW 335i has turbo lag even it makes peak tq from 1500 rpm???

Or... How about a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren that is making 617hp that is not enough...

You should make another poll for N/A vs. Force Induction.

get vortech, centrifugal supercharger sounds really good.
