I will be the first to admit that I am racist/prejudice/whatever the hell else there is out there....I am more likely to grab my purse tighter on MARTA when a white guy gets on late at night than I am over a black man. It was a small piece about the inaccuracies in the racial profiling that happens in Atlanta, mainly the Fulton County area. If someone wants to truly learn about MY culture, why do they have to be remind of it by a "month"? If you want to learn about my Latin heritage, ask me. I'll gladly tell you what Latin America is REALLY like. I know about my Tainos, about Christopher Columbus finding us wayyy before he ever found "America", about how the word "Indians" came from Columbus thinking he'd reached the West Indies and therefore he'd found "Indians" rather than the Bahamas/Puerto Rico/DR/Cuba, and about our own slavery history in our own sugar cane plantations. You wanna know? Ask me, and I'll gladly tell you. It's MY history. It's my heritage. But do I wear it on my arm or tattoo it on my forehead?? Hell no. It doesn't make me any less proud. It doesn't make me forget my history and ancestry.

For the most part I agree with you, I think that people should learn English. What I have noticed though is that when people move here from elsewhere they surround themselves or move to places where the people are like them or family of them...Meaning that in order for them to get by they never have to speak English. I did a report about that in college...I decided to do "A Day in Chamblee/Doraville," and in that entire day the only time that I needed to use English was when I went to an immediate care clinic, but even then they were more than willing to find and interpreter(sp?) for me.
