grinding ranny?

My dad has a 5spd 1986 camry. When i drive it i notice some grinding in the tranny but only when ur in high rpm then start to slow down is that normal for a old car or should it be fixed??

of course grinding in the transmission is not normal =P , is that old of a car worth the time/money of fixing is the real question =]
