allright yall i have a 97 civic HX with a D16Y5. right now i am in the process of getting money together for a header cat and exhaust.. but as i have heard from many people thay the Y5 is the "economy" motor that honda came out with. is it even worth putting money into this motor because it has no power and even less torque lol no pick up :D .. i have thought it over about just goign ahead with the header and exhaust etc.. basic bolt ons but want to swap the motor. what are good motors to put into a civicand price ranges? i have heard many thing B16, B18, etc but dont really know alot about these motors. can someone please tell me the motors that are able to swap into this car and specs and pros/cons of each. a list would be great. and if i did swap the motor the header is completely useless on another motor but the exhaust would be good right? i am trying to stay away from SOHC motors cause they have no power from the people i talk to. all help is greatly appreciated - michael

yea idk i am going off of what i hear.. i am not saying i am right i am just wondering is it worth to build up a d-series or just swap it. and as far as my budget goes its not exactly short term i want to figure out what is best and what all i can do and depending on the cost save up from there and see. but prolly around 2k

2k best bet is either a b20 or a b16...b20 has more torque than a ls but if you want vtec, get the 1.6....

that may put you around 2k with MAYBE cause you need mounts, motor, tranny, ETC + labor....

b16=less torque...get a ls and find a vtec head and the golden eagle kit....get a gsr tranny and call it a day

you got aim?

H22, conversion mounts, axles, ecu. Instant 14 sec. 1/4 on street tires for not much more than $2k (if you do the swap yourself)
