I heard that if I just do situps and crunches it will just put muscle under the fat, that I have to do cardio to get rid of the fat........?!?!?!? sound right?

Yeah do Cardio I dont know how in shape you are, but the best thing is to start out slow with like walking then go from there. You can do situps and stuff its not going to have any neg effects so just start working out like 3 times a week then as you build up your stamina go for more.

(short version)lifting weights would be the best thing to do. to "lose the gut" you want to burn as many calories as possible. lifting will have better results than just running. :2cents:

Well you dont just want to lift weights....my bro does everyday and has for the past 10 years and he still has a gut. He eats good for the most part so you really do need to put cardio in your routine. If it was the summer I would say swimming cause its low impact and not as bad on you joints as running.

Jogging won't get you anything other than sore feet. You need to run/sprint. It's better to do more intensive running than to jog if u wanna lose weight.

yeah cardio is a great start( i need to do this myself) JUMP ROPE it's a great cardio and actually does work your stomach some too... but crunches/situps help a lot because muscle burns fat.

JUMP ROPE is the best advice you've heard in this thread. Be sure to change it up though. Jump rope, Jog, Sprint, Jump, Sprint, Jog, etc.

lifting is NOT what you want to do

lift to keep your muscle but do lots of reps
don't try and do as much weight as you possibly can and only do 5 reps that will build you up and make you bigger, adding weight

sounds like what you wanna do is keep your physique and stay toned more then get bigger. just do cardiac and lift smaller weights a lot of times, and yes situps are key

A LOT of advice in this thread is WRONG. Such as...

1.Muscle burns fat.
2.If you do more reps with lighter weight it will make you more "toned" or "ripped"

Both of the above statements are completely wrong. Muscle builds up underneath fat, so no matter how many sit-ups you do you wont notice any difference because there will be a layer of fat covering your abs. The second statement is false because more reps with lower weights will still only build muscle...just not as much as if you used heavier weights.

A lot of people suggested doing cardio and this is correct, but you have to mix cardio with a proper diet. Cardio is good for losing weight because it burns calories. The best time to do cardio would be in the morning when your body hasnt had any food in it for about 8 hours. This is the best time to do cardio because instead of burning the calories for food you've just eaten your body starts to breakdown stored fat cells to burn the calories. When it comes to losing weight it's all about calories.

If anyone wants any more info they can PM me, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
